LADWP uses the numerous gauging stations on creeks and rivers in the Owens Valley watershed to measure the amount of runoff from the Sierra Nevada as part of its operation of the Los Angeles Aqueduct system.  Each year using information from rain gauges, snow measurements and creek flow measurements, LADWP forecasts the amount of runoff to assist its annual planning.
